Its different definitely and looks like a lot of great work and effort was put into the car. Just think when your used to seeing SC's with only three different fogs that look has to grow on you. But unexpected and good idea.

 

I'm asking the following questions out of pure curiosity, not trying to poke fun at anyone. Can someone please explain the point of stretching tires? Or lowering the car so far that you have zero suspension travel? Or running so much camber that the wheels are almost at a 45 degree angle to the car? This must all be for show, right? You can't realistically drive a car like that, can you?

Different strokes for different folks, but I like to drive my vehicles. I want them to look good, too, but not so modified that I can't drive them. Am I totally missing the point?

So, the questions are:

1). Why stretch tires? Why not get the correct size tire for your wheels?
2). Why lower so far that you can't go over speed bumps or even enter a sloped driveway? The ride must be so harsh, too.
3). Why so much camber? It doesn't seem good for the tires or the wheels. Is it driveable like that?

If anyone can explain, I'd love to know. I'm always trying to learn new things about cars, especially our beloved SC's. Thanks!

 

Its a Stance thing. Some people just love that look, and most of the time fully slammed the car is on bags at that point, so it isn't as bad as it seems with ride height adjustability. I agree that it can get out of hand with some, but done right it can be a very nice show stopper. (pending they can get the car into the parking lot.)

 

iLovett76 your questions sound more like opinions against "stanced" or "VIP" cars.
You, sir, have totally missed the point.
There are many ways to enjoy "your" car. If someone elses method of enjoying "their" car does not make sense to you, then lets just agree to disagree.

1) people stretch tires to be able to lower the car more and fit more agressive offsets. It isn't ideal for performance but you can't get as low or aggressive without doing it. stretched tires can help with drifting as well.

2) Because you want to be lower than everyone else. who needs speed bumps or driveways when you look that good bro its called planning ahead and going a different way or park it on the street.

3) You have to do what you have to do to look this good, also it helps fit bigger wheels with more agressive offsets. I mean it isn't easy to look this good. Its not good for the tires but the wheels don't mind much and no one even cares about tires when you look this good I mean, did I mention how good it looks. if you don't think it looks good yet then you probably won't "get it".

I mean take me for instance I am a performance oriented person, I can't not touch an engine. I want to slap a turbo on every engine I own. I want to hear it pushed to the limit, every time, bounce it off redline and see if you can get some pops before slamming the next gear. I am sure people would say thats not good for the engine, blah blah blah but its really good for the big grin on my face, and really that is why we are all here not cause we have the same goals but because we can share how we got there and how much we liked it.

AliSC3, I didn't mean to judge or discredit anyone's preferences for what they do with their cars, as I said in my original post. I was just asking because I didn't understand the point. I thought it was probably a purely aesthetic thing (which was confirmed) but was curious as to whether I was missing out on some performance benefits. As I said, I'm always trying to learn more. I, too, can't help but touch the engine in every machine I own and I want to strap blowers on everything! So, thanks for your detailed explanation and I certainly agree that these dropped Lexus's look really cool.

As long as we are all enjoying our SC's, then keep it going!!! These cars are classics and I hope to see them on the road for decades to come.
