Hey all, the 1993 sc 400 I bought has an ac gremlin the ac light blinks, and thus shuts compressor off. I tried recharging the system, but it is full of refrigerant. I know the sc's have on board diagnostics on the display, at first I could not use this option, because my lcd screen was black, I fixed the lcd.. There are 0 codes now that I can read the display & I really don't know where to look. Now, if I keep pressing the ac button to keep the compressor on, the ac is cold from the vents, but compressor will not stay on by itself...
Sounds like some sort of safety switch, like blowing a fuse on a circuit breaker. Without actually blowing a fuse, though, I'm not sure where to look. Maybe there's a wiring/ground issue somewhere?
I went through the whole system, and couldn't find the fault. I had a friend who is in the HVAC business come by and he read the pressures on the gauges, and told me I need a new A/C compressor. He told me I better do it fast, because if the compressor ****s the bed, it will blow all sorts of crap into my system. I bought a used compressor for $60.00, and flushed the whole system with denatured alcohol. I poured the new oil into the new accumulator, installed it, and then installed the used compressor. Don't forget to install new o-rings. I pulled vacuum on it overnight, and charged it in the morning, and now I get 40F air out of the vents. everything works great.
