Default p/s pump leak

hey guys
jus wondering has any one attempted to repair the p/s pump on their sc400?
any tips or ideas wud be helpful

i replaced my alt couple of months ago..this failed due too p/s fluid leaking into it! im gonna attempt to repair this with a local mechanic.. a mate of mine. we put the car on the hoist today to check it out 1st... the steering rack also seems stuffed.. lot of movement when turng the wheel. we found 3 of the rack bushes worn out totally..caused by the p/s oil leaks. the pump it self doesnt seem to be leaking.. although the leaks seem to be coming from 2 or 3 low pressure hose fittings.. going from the p/s fluid reservoir to the pump housing? hopefully this will be problem.. its been leeaking for about 6 months.. slowly...but its added up! the cover underneath is soaked in oil!
we will replace all hoses and orings 1st.. along wid new rack bushes.. and see if it does anything to help.
if all goes well.. i hope to save alot of $$.. as replacing the pump and rack wid new items will cost soo much $$.

post any helpful ideas/tips.. guys

cheers

There is info and diagrams on my site for rebuilding the power steering pump.

In the UK dealers do not sell the rack bushes seperate, only come with the rack!!!! but you can get them from Andrew Vlamos in Oz - see the ALSC site for details if you cant sorce them in the US.

You should attend to to the P/S leaks ASAP as they will destroy your new alt if it gets fluid on it.

well guys...

jus got my car back from the w/shop today.. after having no lexus sc400 for 3 days!
my p/s pump is repaired and my steering rack bushes have been replaced the difference the new bushes made is amazing..the steering feels so much tighter and firmer.
i repaired the pump with a new genuine toyota seal kit and the rack bushes were an aftermarket bushes..i had to use aftermarket ones coz toyota apparently dont sell the bushes on its own..you must buy the comp rack from them $$ !! the bushes i used were a "super pro" brand bush.. 3 pieces all together..with two metal bushes and a packet of grease, part # SPF1193K. these are great..no squeaking or anything after installing them.. while the car was on the hoist i also replaced the oil and fuel filter along with new castrol gtx semi synthetic oil

if anyone else has a leaky p/s pump(very common on ls400 & sc400) i suggest you get it repaired asap..also check the rack bushes on a hoist.. do these at the same time..it is well worth it.. or else or will be replacing your altenator as well.. after it gets full of p/s fluid!

thanks also to london bill... great website! i found alot of helpful info there...

cheers
