i couldn't find a thread for diffs, kinda like a fitment thread for wheels and tires except for diffs. so i say it would be a good place to just post all the diff info you guys know. gear ratios, price, place of purchase, installation, and so on.

I run an SC430 diff. It's the same size diff as the stock SC300 one, except its a 3.26 ratio, and the 3bolt flange is the larger one so you have to swap it out with the one on your SC300 one to fit your stock driveshaft donut. This same diff is also found on later SC400s, I forget the exact years though.

This is a great ratio for a 6spd, and I ran it briefly on my 5spd and enjoyed that as well. I tend to prefer longer gearing anyway though.

I fitted mine with a used OEM Torsen LSD from a TT Auto (3.76) diff. I also have a spare that still has the open diff. I may get a TRD clutch style LSD one day to either put in the spare, or swap it with the Torsen one and sell that one.

i was told my car has a TT auto diff and i was guessing it's a torsen or at least the clutch one which is what the non turbo auto supras came with right? but it doesn't lock at all. i did some donuts in a wet parking lot (attempted to) and the car just stood still while the inside wheel just spun.

The Torsen LSD is the factory one that came in the diffs that got LSD. The TRD one is the clutch style, it's more of an "aftermarket" unit you can buy and install in your diff.

Just because you have an Auto TT Diff in your car doesn't mean it has LSD in it. Some diffs have LSD, some don't. And with all of the part swapping that goes on now a days, even if all the internet research in the world says that diff is supposed to have LSD, someone could have easily gone in and swapped something in/out over the last decade. The only way to know what you have is to open it up and look.

I run a '94 Supra TT Auto Torsen LSD rear end but I had it rebuilt with a 4.272:1 ratio from a GS300. I still have the 3.769:1 ring and pinion for a second rebuild when I swap my engine.

Picked mine up for a steal at $650. Usually they go for $1,000 on average for a whole pumpkin. Just the Torsens themselves are usually between $500-$650. You need to check the inside of the pumpkin itself to make sure there is a Torsen in there because 97-98 TT Autos had them as options, not standard equipment. Sometimes they are for sale on CL and more often on SupraForums... but believe me when I tell you they usually sell the day or within a couple hours of the ad being posted. I missed many opportunities and had to keep looking hard until I got lucky.

I made a thread about my diff swap which includes a lot of accumulated information:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...rset-swap.html

^^ As Halon mentioned, the TRD is a clutch-type LSD. Very good but $1,000 on its own (no pumpkin). It's what people use above 500whp. Torsens only require regular diff oil changes and do not use any friction modifiers in their oil.
