I have a viper 5704, with a bunch of added security along with remote start and remote trunk release.

Of all of the crummy non operational systems on my 280k SC, the oem alarm is not one of those. Pulling down the windows and having no key, there was no way I could open the door to my SC. It was impossible. I was unhappy.

The previous owner of my SC400 installed 2 after market alarm systems in the car, Viper and Prestige. Maybe he was paranoid. Frankly, for me, the alarms were very annoying. I finally disabled it last week (well kinda put it in valet mode). I use the key to open my doors now.

I have the Viper 5101 Remote start/Keyless entry model in my 96 SC300. I love it works great. The lock /unlock feature operates the oem alarm normally. I also have the trunk pop. Remote sart works great and it has about a 1 mile range depending on location. Paid about $120. for the unit and another $30 for misc. wires/conectors, Iinstalled it my self.

My car hasn't been running since January. Unless you're a homeless person looking for a place to camp, I won't need one.
