Default To fix or not to fix?

As some of you may remember, my 96 SC300 was broken into about 3 weeks ago. Currently, the damage is a somewhat bent hood (according to the appraiser, it would be replaced not fixed), the trim ring aroudn the climate control and dash need to be replaced, as does the shifter ****. I am going to sell this car on ebay one way or another. my question is, would i be better off not fixing it and selling it on ebay for less, and keeping the insurance money, or fixing it and THEN selling it? any thoughts would be helpful.

dpakman,

There are a bunch of issues with selling your car busted up. People will always be curious and hesistant since it is damaged. They do not know the extent of the damage or if you are telling the whole truth. I would get it fixed back to OEM and then sell the car.

pcmw, you may very well be right.

according to the insurance company, the repairs will consist of:

1281.19 - parts
1682.40 - labor
2963.50 total

any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I would fix the two interior pieces (which shouldn`t cost much), and sell it with the dent in the hood (which would probably cost alot to replace). SO basically you get the best of both worlds. Most of the money from the insurance, and It would probably sell well with the dented hood still.

that is what is was also thinking about. the interior stuff would be a lost easier, and less time consuming as well, to have fixed, and would naturally be the biggest turnoffs to potential buyers.

I like that idea. Half fix it but then disclose that it has a oppsy on the hood.

Can you take the hood to a dent repair place that can bend it out flat. I had a friend take his MBZ S-Class to one of those places and they took 19 dings out of it for only $300. it looked great for a black on black S-class. I could tell only because I saw a few of the big dings before hand. Only a minor ripple after. Nothing noticible to even my pickyness.
