Default Rear Speaker Covers - anyone dye them?

I don't know if the color matched the rear when it was new, but I suspect the sun had a lot to do with the greyish color it is today. Has anyone tried dying the covers a brown color to match the rear deck better? I think it would look better. I may try this on my own. How do I remove the covers - can I just pry them off, or do I need to get at them from the trunk?

Default redo

just redo the cloth. Go to your local upholsterer and get the fabric, pull off the old fabric, get some 3M spray adhesive, spray it on and lay your new cloth, its easy.

My interior is grey. Those covers were brown. I ended up tearing the cover off. I never recovered them.

Ryan,

I would think it would be nicer to have the entire redeck recovered with a solid piece of grill cloth that remains flush all the way across. I don't like the speaker grills sticking out. This would also prevent the same fading problem in the future.

pcmw,
How would you mount the speakers so that they are flushed?

I remember about a year ago, someone dyed those grilles royal blue and had short-lived plans to match the interior with that color. He never went through with it, but at least you know the grilles are dyable.

The interior in my car is black. I used a bottle of black Rit brand dye and they are as black as the parcel tray. Turned out great.

LOL yah those plans quickly changed...

that was me btw...

The covers come off real easy. Once you get the back rear peice off, then the covers just unscrew from the bottom. Use the search button and you should find a few posts about this a while ago.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll look around for speaker cloth or dye. It doesn't bother me that they stick out a bit - just that the color is so different.
