Default Rear (trunk deck) speaker removal?

I have a '98 GS300. Today I heard a high pitched squealing coming from the 10" speaker mounted in the trunk deck. Apparently one of the wires got shorted to the speaker basket. The voice coil got pretty hot, and now there's no sound from it.

I'm assuming the speaker is blow, or if there's a crossover mounted somewhere for it, that's toasted. Problem is, I can't figure out how to get the speaker grille off. I tried loosening the plastic tabs under the deck, but it doesn't want to pop up very easily.

Has anyone taken this out? I don't want to break anything. Any help to point me in the right direction is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

you have to remove the rear seat to access the rear deck cover, then from there you have access to the stock sub. Its a pain, theres a thread here somewhere that shows you how to do it step by step. or search on google for bananags diy page, it has plenty of goodies.

its a pain?
i can do it in 10 mins. no jokes.
1. just pull the bottom seat up(just yank it upwards, it unclips itself. no screws involved). this leaves you with just the backrest portion of the seat.
2. open the two flaps in each headrest and remove bolts. also remove 4 bolts at the bottomof backrest portion of seat.
3. remove the two pillar posts on each side of the rear deck. they are clipped in so just pry out and they should come.
4. pry out 3 or 4 clips at the tip of the back deck which hold it in place.(sounds confusing?, when you reach here you will see them CLEARLY cos its impossible to lift rear deck without removing the plugs/clips))
5. from here, you don't even have to remove the rear deck totally. you can just raise it up enough to stick your head and one hand in to reach in and unscrew the four screws holding the sub in place.when i say "stick your head in", i actually mean under the rear deck so it kind of rests on your head while you unscrew the sub which should take about 2mins max.
6. OPTIONAL, take this time to dynomat that rear deck and under the seats to stop rattles etc. i did not do it cos i didn't think it was necessary but its up to you.
7. replace everything in reverse and you good.
8. posts successful results on CL and MOST IMPORTANTLY use search function to educate yourself on like topics and more so you too can help the next man in need of help on CL.
good luck.
