Was able to head out to three Pick-n-Pull locally here in town this past 4 days to look for parts for an old project of mines involving my old truck, in the same time, also stumble upon taking a peek at six Lexus SC300. Manage to find and purchased a bunch of SC300 Needles! Each Needles were $1 dollar each after tax and environmental fee. Twenty one Needles in all! Now to go upon testing them. Read somewhere about using 1,000 ohm resistor and a 9volt battery for testing it. Will get to that later on today as I have some spare 9volt batteries at work, currently at home still.

Any heads up of what to expect?

Some of the Needles came from 92-96 Lexus SC300, I'm not sure which is which. There were no 1997+ Lexus SC300 at Pick-n-Pull. I"m assuming all the Needles from 1992 thru 1996 are compatible with each other?

I only have 1 burnt out Cluster Needle in my SC300, and it's getting pretty annoying. Hopefully one of these Needles that I gathered will be in working condition without any burn out.

 

You were able to buy just the needles? The places around here require you to buy the entire cluster! I would love to know if this works. I have one that's burning out as we speak.

You are better off swapping in a 97-00 cluster.

 

a 97+ cluster is compatible wit the 92-96?

 

it takes 10 min to put needles in, you dont need a full cluster
just stick a 9v battery under the needles to test.

 

Do the needles just pop on and off or do you have to do some soldering to install them?

 

they pop on and off, just pull them

 

May have to hit up the junkyard to find one then since my needles are starting to fade out. Dont really have the money to send out to Lextech or the other place that does the led needles just yet lol. Is it hard to open the cluster up to remove the needles? I was trying to find a diy thread but wasnt able to find one.

 

Forgot about this post, been really busy with work and out of town work. I did test the Needles using a 9volt battery and a 1,000 ohm resistor in between. I was able to get 6 of the Needles working. 2 Long ones 4 Short ones.

I haven't had time to pop my cluster shield off so I can put it on the cluster to see if it works from there as well.

 

all 4 of my needles are black... sometimes i get like a orange or red dot pop up on temp. first time i'm thinking overheat light lhah. but yea.. kinda sucks at night -.- "I'm sorry, officer. I really dont know how fast I was going.. 12.5 psi? "

 

easier said than done, I did it. took about 2 days on and off wiring hunched over the freaking steering wheel staring at a million wires

Are you saying to test the needles you can just touch the needle to the battery?? Or does it need to be wired up and also use a resistor??

 

Just use a 9 volt battery. Lay the needle on the top of the needle. If it doesn't light up, then turn the battery around. Remember 92-94 have the same polarity, 95-96 use reverse polarity, and I am not sure on the 97-2000. I think reverse polarity also. Send them off and to get it reversed to the correct polarity you are after. Several companies have this type of service.
