My gold emblems were looking old and dull. In order to bring some new life to em I decided to plasti-dip them black. Took about 2 hours and 6 light coats, but the end result was well worth it! There was a decent amount of spray that had gotten to parts of the car that I didn't mask off. Yet, with just a towel and some water I was able to buff it off no sweat.

Did you do this on or off car? Did you sand and prime? How did you reattach the emblems? Can you write a DIY step by step?

I did this all on the car. It was incredibly easy. Total cost was $10. $5 for the plasti-dip and another $5 for masking tape.

Follow the steps on this video and you should be golden. Just remember to be patient and try not to apply too much coating at once. Took me 6 light coats to finish it off, waiting 15 minutes between coats to let dry. Lastly, make sure you spray at all angles to get coverage in all of the nooks and crannys of the emblems.

nice! I hope it turns out well for you. I like the matte black look so I chose not to get the glossifier (plus Home Depot didn't have it), but I could definitely see why you would want the glossifier to match it to your paint.

Post some pics when it's all done!

Mine went from chrome to black but that occured during the repaint so not quite the great DIY job that you did... Yours looks very nice indeed. Never was a fan of the gold ones...

Here is how mine ended up (backs only - eliminated the front emblems)

Looks great man. I would have removed them from the car first though.. Over all good job. Don't forget to do the antenna stub! I wonder how the front emblem will hold up with the bugs and grime over time? I ask this because I have to touch mine up with a black sharpie from time to time, but I also used VHT paint.

VERY easy. it literally just peels right off. I was expecting it to be harder. You could do it with one hand. For the paint that gets inside the emblem, I used a toothpick to pull up some plasti dip until I could get a grip on it to pull it off.

On the difficulty scale of 1 being washing your car and 10 being replacing a motor, I would rate it a 3
