Default Thoughts on this SC400?

Hey guys. Have been lurking for a while and I think I finally found the right SC for me.

Ran a Carfax and the VIN came back clean. 1994 SC400, 1 owner car, 84k miles, all that fun stuff. It is at a used car lot, and they got it from Prestige Lexus in Ramsey NJ. They are asking $7k, but I will not be touching this car w/ a 10ft pole at that price.

Assuming its as clean as described, what should I pay for this thing?

When I called them up he said the tires aren't in the greatest shape, and he doesn't have any records for the car. I was able to run the Vin on Lexus's website and found 3 years of maintenance. It will be due for its 90k service very soon, and I am factoring that into what I am willing to pay for the car. I am going out Sunday cash in hand to check it out.

Also dayumn, I would gladly eat my dinner off of any surface in that engine bay

That 90k service can be expensive. I would say $6,200 would be fair.

I think I could be happy at 6200. Will definitely try for lower though lol.

A local Toyota dealership quoted me at $507 for just the timing belt, or $932 for the full 90k service

^Someone here just sold a 92 sc400 with 80k for $6500, but the thing was mint and had the oem bbs rims to. 5500-6500 would be about right for this car (assuming) it is as mint as he says. Tires for this car, a good set, will set you back around $600 mounted and balanced. So if you tell him that, play just plain negotiating, maybe you can get it for 6k?

had no idea oem bbs wheels we're ever offered. Cool stuff lol.

Also I may just have to beat this guy up on the price. Not that its even a huge deal but just by the pictures I can see some spydering on the factory headrest, a pretty big crease in the passenger seat leather, and a tiny ding on the front quarter panel.

I'm really hoping that the 4k-ish miles a year on the car means that the PO was someones grandmother haha

That thing is pretty clean, major attraction is the low miles! Id say 4500-5000 for it! Hope it goes well for you!

Looks pretty clean overall for the age. Mileage is great, but yes, haggle down since major maintenance will be needed soon. I'm surprised that a Toyota dealership is offering to do the timing belt for so cheap! Since the wheels are 16", a decent set of tires won't cost a ton, maybe $500ish mounted and balanced for all four. Also look for the usual wear areas. Power steering rack, pump, and high pressure lines, to make sure they're not leaking or weaping. Make sure the transmisson isn't slipping or shifting wierd with the solenoid issues that some SC's have.

This is about a $4K car, at least to me.

Have plenty of money set aside, as it is old and does not look mint. New tires, 90k service is about $1500-1800. Assume another $1000 for misc items.

Not bad right?!? They charge $597 but have a %15 off coupon that runs until the end of April

Thanks for all the input guys. I need to set a limit for myself and not exceed it under any circumstances. I think $5500 may be that number.

You all will be the first ones too know and hopefully the next pictures to be posted will be taken in my driveway lol

Guys come on I see these cars go from 800$-4000$ all the time on here and Craigslist. Come on hey new guy just keep your eye out. Don't get gouged on the price and pay that much for something that I assure you will be putting some money into$$$$$$$$$. I always find great deals they come by every month or so.

True, but mileage that low CAN reduce the over all wear and tear on the parts significantly. Make sure the mileage is true as that body/interior looks the same as some on this site with twice the mileage in some ways. Motor and tranny may reflect the low miles better.

EDIT: On second thought, those are not the best pics. This baby is probably cleaner than we can see. A good detail and better pics and we all might be even more excited for you.
