Have a 96 SC4 with 97K miles, would like to trade for a 98 with approximally 85K miles on it from a dealer (not lexus) ... BTW, assuming both in good conditions, how much more would I expect to pay? Or, would you do this trade at all?

I am considering the trade because 98 has more hp and has more updates in it and I like the color on that car too (black) rather than green, the 96 I own now is also new to me, so I really don't know what's been done and what's not either way. Plus, 98 is two years younger than 96, and I expect to keep the car for a long time.

I like the front bumper of the 98 design and the wood interior etc., but I like the taillight of a 96 but I would never update those things in my car lol., whatever comes with it, that's what I am going to have, I don't have the time nor energy to upgrade those stuff. To me, the stock look is very fine already.

Depending on how much cash they demand for the trade, I know I would enjoy both ways. What a great machine that we own!

All opinions are welcomed and lots of thanks!

I went to that independent dealear and saw the car, the car is in good condition, but he asked f******* 8 thousand dollars with tax included for it, I think he will go for 7 grand but it is still too much.

I didnot have much time while looking at that car, but I noticed a few things, the car is completely tinted all the way around and has traction control. Of course the nicer dash with wooden gated shift, a soarer and a toyota emblem at the tail, is that how to spell that word? I know lots of you guys like that, personally I like the lexus mark.

Anyways, the independent dealear ask me if I wanted to deal the car myself and then go buy his car, I think it is too much trouble. I paid tax and registration for my current car till next Dec. Even if I do so, the car may not be there when everything is set and done.

What do you guys think about a fair trade would be? I understand the dealear is entitled to make a living, there has to be a common ground where we can make a deal to make everyone happy. Your inputs are really appreciated.

8Thousand?
The dealer wants how much for a '98 with 85K miles? $8,000?
Assuming that's correct, that seems like a hell of a good deal to me - isn't it? SHouldn't that car be worth $20K or so?

I guess I did not make myself clear. The dealer wanted to take my 96 SC4 with 97k miles on it and plus 8,000 USD to make the deal...

Repaint car : $4000-$13000 easy
97Conversion : $2000 parts + $600-$2000 painting
+no gate shifter
+no new dash

=$6600-$17000 in changes and you might not be happy.

Changing a car color is a pain in the butt and if it is not done right you will never be happy. To get it done right it costs alot.

If you really want to avoid all the trouble I see brewing for you then do the trade for the 98 but do not pay over $6500. This is the difference in the full retail prices of both cars as they are valued now.

Think of the all the headache you will go through just to get the vehicle you wanted if you stayed with the 96.

Advantages of the 96 are: if OBDI then it can be turboed easier.

Hermosa

Thanks for the math, I also think the asking price was a bit much, I would never do it at 8 grand lol. 6.5 grand? I think even at that price the independent dealer will make at least 7 grand total on both cars., My budget is between 4 to 5 grand and for that price, I think the dealer could probably make 4-5 grand on both cars.

BTW, I would never repaint the car the color that I wanted, too much work and money.

Any other inputs ANYONE?
