question about remote key
I have the opportunity to buy an uncut remote key for a 95 sc400 (the one with the little lock/unlock button on the side). Can this key be programmed to work with my 97 sc400?
Sorry this answer is not a for sure answer but I don't believe the key with the single side button is not programmable. I recently replaced my remote keys on my 92 and I know the system for 92-95 is the same. see my link here for more details on the system.

Basically, the single button remote style from the 92-95 has to have a corresponding ROM chip that is placed into the keyless system ECU. This design does not allow one to reprogram the chips in either the key or the ROM.
For some reason I also seem to think that maybe the 95 single key button was multi function though...pressing the button twice popped the trunk but I'm not sure. If this is true I wonder if one were to replace not only the keys but the ROM Chip and maybe also the ECU from a 95 system into their 92-94 would it work? This would also carry over to your question. If so - I'd think you'd have to replace from your 97 - the keys (which you have one) but you'd have to find the corresponding ROM that goes with that key and possibly the ECU from that of a 95.
If someone else can really set this straight please do. I'm just not entirely sure about the system on the 95. This was something I had asked in my original post linked above but never got an answer.
