Question Semi-metallic Brake Pads

does anyone know where i can get semi-metallic brake pads??

Sharon, are you looking for softer or harder brake pads? Any brand in particular?

hi lex400sc,

i'm not exactly too sure about the diff. btwn. hard/soft but i'm just looking for a good brand, or atleast 2nd best, for my bradi's (drilled/slotted).....thanks!

Soft pads wear faster and produce a lot of brakes dust, but are easier on your rotors. Hard pads bite the rotors really hard, which allows you to stop on a dime, but they'll eventually kill your rotors. Especially if they are cross-drilled or slotted. It's up to you. BTW, I think all brake pads have some metal in them. The GS guys like the EBC Green pads a lot, but I've never tried them. I'm using OEM pads.

Kill the rotors or be killed....

Rotors are really, Really, cheap in comparison.

Buy the BEST pads you can afford, let your ABS take care of the rest.

Soft compound pads still stop the car very well, the hard ones just do it better. Pretty much everyone that has driven my car has commented on the responsiveness of the brakes, and I'm using the relatively soft OEM pads.

I have been using Carbon Kevlar front pads on my SC400. I have the Toyota Supra Twin Turbo (1993=1998) 4 piston rotors and Twin Turbo Rod Millen slotted front rotors.

On the rear I am using Green Stuff pads on stock Lexus SC400 calipers with slotted Brembo rear OEM replacement rotors.

These now have about 20K highway miles on them and they wear fine, stop well and give little if any dirt or dust to mess up my GT3 wheels. I find them a fine combination.

Red,that's the combo I was planning on using,at least until I found a set of Performance Friction pads on closeout somewhere for a real deal.They're a little noisy,but haul the car down pretty good,and get better as they heat up.
Next time the car will have 4piston calipers...

Oh, sxys, what I meant was that the oe pads are semi-metallic, at least that's what my dealer gives me , they're actually pretty grippy for stock pads, kinda dusty but they're relatively consistent throughout different heat ranges, and i've never had a squeal yet using those pads. Of course, you'll like a nice set of SBS ceramic better....

OEM pads actually have bevelled edges so the more they wear away, the better the grip becomes. I had a squeally brake problem and eventually traced it back to the brake clips and springs. A few bottles of Brakeleen and the squealling is almost completely gone. And I didn't even have to by a new shim kit!
