check engine light question

check engine light question
Hoping someone could run a quick test for me on their car.
When you turn your key to the ON position do all your dash lights come on including your check engine? All mine do but my check engine, is this normal? I want to make sure my bulb there is not out if it is suppose to come on and or worse something is wrong with the main ecu.
My car (92 SC400) seems to start just fine and drives strong but while in drive and while stopped (like at a traffic light) the car has died on me on occasion. I can move the transmission back into park and the car will start just fine. I do have somewhat of a low idle while in drive, much lower than when it is in park and idling no sure if this is normal.
Any ideas.
