Default Removal of glove box

If anyone here has removed their glove box, how much force do you have to use? I feel like I am about to rip the thing apart!! I have taken the bottom panel off to access the bottom screws, I have taken those little squares off to access the top screws, I have used my screw driver to move the plastic away from the center... and I have pulled REALLY hard on it, and it doesn't want to leave its home . Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

Default one more

directly forward of the latch in the top inside of the glovebox, there is a 2-part plastic clip. The center can be backed out with a stubby phillips screwdriver - then the clip surround can be pried out with a small screwdriver. You have to remove both parts of this clip. Also, there's the button switch for the light, the light itself, and a panel with wiring attached to it in the top surface of the box - all those have to be gotten out too - the switch and light can be unplugged, the panel can be pulled down into the box, turned 90 degrees, and passed through its own slot as you pull the box out.

Just did it 3 days ago, it's fresh in my mind - -

Default Yeah, yeah, I know this is an old thread, Sherlock....

That sort of exposed clip may exist on some SC's, but on my 1992 SC4 there was no such plastic clip. Yet my glove box definitely seemed to hang up on something about 2 inches to the right of the center glove box door latch. Every other part of the glove box was loose, and it seemed to be pivoting around that area.

You can see the culprit in the photo below. That hidden clip you see to the right of center is slightly angled upward, so once everything else is loose, give the glovebox a good yank slightly downward as you pull it towards you, and the glove box should come out.

This was most likely the first or second time my glove box was ever removed, and that clip was grabbing very tight.

indirect question... just didnt want to start another thread.. on the SC4 (1992) how do you remove the large centre air vent (the dual one with the glovebox button and the key in it)?

seems to be in there ridiculously tight...

thanks

Default serenity now, serenity now....

That's commendable that you just didnt want to start another thread, but you might want to try posting to a more appropriate thread next time, like:

I have a 93, with 9+ /10 tan interior, but when I bought it, it had some body damage from the owners previous Girlfriend, but I had to buy, from another party, a complete a new pale green interior, and wanting to paint car blue, or green, will have a great tan interior available. I've looked in Search, and FAQ for info about removing the interior, but other than a thread on painting the wood grain, cannot find instructions on the removal, and installation for the SC. Anything advice, or help would be appreciated
