Default Engine Computer Location & Removal

Hi Everyone,

First of all, I would like to thank you all for your contribution to this forum. You have been truly helpful. I appreciate it.

I have a 1996 LS400 and I am attempting to replace the engine computer (ECU/ECM). Can you please tell me where it is located and, possibly, removal and installation instructions? I have a feeling it is behind the glove compartment, but I thought it would be best to ask you before.

Once again, I really appreciate your help.

it is behind the glove box !!!!!!!!!!!!!
first you pop off the bottom plastic which has the foot light
twist the light out and pull the plastic out

there are going to be 2 10mm bolts one on the side nearest to the door the next one you have to pop off a hidden panel in the glove box and you will see it. there are probably 4 Philips screws on the upper portion of the glove box. there is a panel in the upper back of the glove box that you have to pop off and you will see a wire harness. pull that all apart and bam you will start seeing the computer.

im not sure if you want to take out the cd changer and stuff, but you can see all the Philips screw and 10mm bolts to pull that out
happy hunting and diy

Thanks for your help, PK Celsior.

One more question - Do I have to remove the glove box door or can I remove/install from the bottom?

the glove box door and stuff should come off as one whole unit. you wont be able to reach the ecm bolt unless you take out the whole glove box. you will be able to see it bu thats it
