Default Offsets

How do you know if you have the right offset when you purchase rims? Is there any way to correct offsets after you get it ? Just wondering cause my 20's rub once in a while when I do a fast turn.

You can use spacers to help with the offset.

Use the correct offset +50mm as there is little you can do about it afterwards, if you are catching the wheel arch lip then spacers will just make it worse.

Use the "Search" as there are a few long threads here about offset, have a look at my site for diagrams and suggested offsets.

Bill, good stuff on your website, thanks.

I have a set of Supra TT rims waiting for next spring and have been considering 235's or 245's on the front and 255's on the rear, all 45 aspect ratio.

Have you run 245's in front on your car? I see that Iain runs 235's in front and I think 265/40's in back. That extra 10mm in front isn't a huge deal, but I don't want to end up with any rubbing problems. And the 245's would be a little taller too, and I really don't want to give up any more ride quality than I will be already going from 55's to 45's. So I would really like to go with 245/45's in front and 255/45's in back.

Your thoughts would be appreciated. And I know lex400sc is in the market for tires for his TT wheels too - -

As you will have seen I still have 16" rims with 225/55 all round, I made this choice to try and compensate for the stiff shock/spring set-up that the previous owner fitted to my TT, the 55 section allows some of the road shock to be absorbed in the tyres, I dread to think what it would ride like on thin walled 45 or 40 section tyres.

I you have normal suspension and want to retain as much ride quality as possible then I would go for 45 section on the front tyres and try to avoid anything with a smaller sidewall, if you go to a tyre manufacturers site you should find a table which has the rolling radius of each tyre (or tyre height), this will allow you to decide which width will retain the same height as a standard 16" fitment, in some cases you can go wide on the rear 265/275 and drop down to the 40 section but still retain the same rolling radius and wall height.
