Yay. I now get to pull the head and replace the gasket and knowing my luck, the head as well. after the whole cracked waterpump housing ordeal. I limped the last 5 minutes home after adding more coolant. the car didn't get hot to the point of dying, but I'm sure it was close. anyway I garages it and didn't bother with jb weld.
Anyway I waited for all my replacement parts and had the car towed to my buddies shop to use his airtools and lift. now that I replaced the starter, water pump, timing belt and alternator, i put it together and its billowing white smoke and nearly overheats a block from the shop. lovely new issues btw. I'm not sure I'm up for any more DIY work on this car as its a pain in the *** to do, and today took it out of me. As of right now I have driven the car a total of 3 times with one time actually being enjoyable am seriously thinking of selling this pile as is and getting what I put into it back.
lol sorry biut the luck but dont give up now you will have most major maint done and know what you have . and you would take major loss try selling with blown head gasket just make sure you have head checked to make sure not warped but.... after you get it done you should enjoy it.... knowing you shouldnt have do any thing for a long time allready been done.. some times you get other peoples problems when you buy used cars .. just part of the game...but you could just do a gte swap now ....lol
good luck
first of all you bought the pile yourself, its not the cars fault.
second of all 2jz is one of the easiest engines to work on, try to pull a head or heads on a fwd v6!
Third and most of all, you rushed trough the job and half assed it. You should of took the head to the machine shop and had it decked knowing it over heated. Or you simply dont have enough mechanical knowledge to do these type of repairs. Dont blame the car for being what it is, you bought a cheap car with problems you get what you pay for.
Gotta pay to play...Good luck man with what ever you decide to do...But what did you expect from a 20 yr old car.... and from what it sounds like that SC was poorly maintained so it was only going to be a project car/parts car anyway.......
Sooo much easier than working on LSx, VQ35's and Modular Ford 4.6s.
Well... except the water pump itself... It's a bit more tricky than the other motors, but overall this is as good as it gets as far as heads go.
i can do w/p,t/b,cam seals, crank seal on this motor in 3 hours or less start to finish. Drain coolant, remove radiator 15 min job and you just got yourself crazy room
if your gonna buy an sc just save about 7 grand and buy one in mint instead of buying one for 2000 just to say you have an sc becuase your going to end up spending a crap load on the car i paid 2900 for my sc4 but i was playing the lottery doing that but my car dont give any problems thank god .... i would fix it if i were you and keep the car
Well thank you all for pointing out that I bought the car myself. the reason I bought it was because at the time all that actually needed to be changed was the starterand a cooling fan blade. the woman I bought it from drove it to work, then I met her to look at it. we then drove a good 30 minutes to drop off my eclipse, drove the sc back across town to drop her off then I drove it home. the entire time the water pump hadn't cracked yet(no coolant leak)and the car showed no signs of the car running hot at all...
So yes, I was a bit surprised at how the water pump committed suicide. it actually cracked from the top left bolt of the housing to the one at the bottom. the reason I'm amazed the head gasket and likely the head gave up the ghost is because the car didn't actually overheat. It got hot, but didn't overheat to the point of coolant boiling out / the car dying.
WEll I ordered my replacement HG yesterday. Should be here next week. im probably gonna get started pulling the thing apart next week aswell...here is hoping the head isn't ****ed. Once thats done she should run pretty stout all for less than 3k
