I found a guy selling a 97 tt auto diff locally, how can i make sure its lsd? He also told me he has a soarer 5 speed driveshaft, i plan on going 1jz so will these work together? Also do i use stock axles if i buy the diff? Thanks

 

Make sure it has the cooling fins on the diff itself. I'm not sure how you can tell without opening up the diff to check. Yes you would need a soarer front shaft if you wanted to mate this to a r154. You can use the back end of the 5 speed drive shaft. You can use the stock axles for the diff. R154 and auto TT pumpkin is a perfect combo. I have that combo myself with a 2jzgte single swap.

I think you can also use the front half of a mk3 driveshaft and the stock rear half of an SC driveshaft. may need to swap out flange on the diff itself also.

 

The cooling fins doesn't mean it's from a TT even Na SuPras have the cooling fins on the bottom of the diff....

 

If you have access to it, the foolproof way to tell is to take the cover off and see if it looks like an open or lsd. If you have cash in hand I dont think they would care if you want to take the cover off if its legit, cause if its an open diff then its pretty much worthless.
its a good idea to replace the seal on the cover anyways so it doesn't leak on you in the future.

 

i know for a fact that if your putting the auto tt pumpkin in a orginal 5 speed sc then you will have to change the flange on the diff not 100% about the auto sc's though

 

just installed one in my car just took it out and dropped right in


tt on the right stock 5sp on the left didnt have to do anything

opened it to make sure it had a torsen

 

ya i realized like 5 min after i posted this that when i bought mine it wasnt out of a sc so that would explain my situation
