Default New Owner, Few Questions.

Hello everyone, this forum is a plethora of knowledge. I just picked up a 95 SC400 with 104,000 miles for $3500, knock on wood everything is running fine. I want to get this thing to 250K and beyond and have fun with it. When I was looking at it, my main concern is that most engines need timing belt/water pump replacement at 100-125K, and other maintenance that gets you the high mileage out of the engine. I know the guy before me did not do this, but just kept up on oil changes, etc. What is the consensus about when work like this should be done?

Thanks, I am naturally a little paranoid...do they tend to go between 100-125K like clockwork?

To be honest, I've seen quite a few SC's that had the original timing belt and water pump until 115,000-150,000 miles. You might be able to squeeze another 10,000 miles out of it, but it's too risky to try. Do all of the maintenance as soon as you can.

I'm in the same boat since my SC has 107,000 miles and I have to do the same stuff soon.

OK, I appreciate it, I will get on it the next month or so. I am considering doing it myself but there are mixed reviews on how much of a PITA it is.

Do it yourself, it'll save you some cash and you learn something about your car. I'm in the same boat as well, my car's creeping up on 200k and its about time to do mine's again.

Check out this link.. www.lexls.com, under the tutorials.. Its a step by step with pictures. I would say get it done and get it done now.. Change the cam seals, crank seal, tensioner, belts, caps, rotors, and plugs.. JMO.
