Default Quick Question on the Oem Subwoofer

I know there has been a couple threads on this topic but i have a question and im not trying to reopen old dead threads..

So here's my dilenma i have a 92 sc3 and i used my gorilla tube (12 inch bazooka tube) I had left over from my mk3 supra. I blew the 12 the other night being that it was pretty old (alpine Type e).And i am debating if i should buy another 12 or sell the tube and buy a 10 (maybe a jl w0 or rockford fostgate)

From experience how does it hit in the car?
Pretty clear, how bad does it shake that rear window?
Any odd ball problems?

Thanx in advance

Uhh, the OEM subwoofer hits alright (could hit hard once you mess with the AMP), doesn't shake the window at all. Was that your question?

if you put a aftermarket 10 in the stock location you will have to make a adapter ring for it to go into and to possibly raise it to clear the gas tank. More than likely you wont be able to use the stock sub grill. As far as the amp your best bet is to use an aftermarket amp to push the sub

no big deal! hardly. i refer you to my thread. should be a few posts down from the top or search for "custom fiberglass enclosure under rear deck" you wont be able to use the factory mounting ring, you wont be able to use the factory grill. and unless you sound deaden the dash it will rattle to much to tolerate. i have been working on my project 6 weeks and it just finished today. cost me about 4 or 500 dollars for the install and i still have not bought an amp. of course a lot of the money spent was on tools i needed for the job. but it was not easy at all. read through the thread and decide from there if its worth it for you. im happy with the results but it was a big deal.

Fml! lol i just read your diy and your trying to make a glass box so it's going to be twice as hard, as what im trying to do..even though your glass box looks like a original clean idea but im just trying to keep it simple honestly..how bad is that raddle? is it as bad as the truck would be? maybe a few extra bolts or subwoofer padding? don't get me wrong it sounds easy now but i am in the first stages of my project so i wouldn't really know about what im dealing with untill i actually start ya kno..how long is your subwoofer roughly?

the sub has a mounting depth of 5.5". and was lifted by the mounting ring and sound deadner by about 2". others have stock mounted a 10'' back there and made a mounting ring that bolted to the stock metal mounting bracket. that is the easy road but not going to get you a very clean sound at all. if that is your intention then a freeair shallow mount sub is your best bet. but as i said i never heard one i liked. if you just want a little bump it would be ok i guess. but your better off with a box in the trunk. my setup was done to avoid trunk suicide and to give me the satisfaction of a custom dash mount. definitely not for everyone. basstubes imho suck bigtime. kill that thing with a sledgehammer. and do either a prefab single sub box or a custom glass box mounted either in the sidewall or spare tire well. that is the road most sc owners take. just wanted to point out that using the stock hole is not as easy as some would think if you want good sound. sure you can just slap a sub in there mounted to a mdf ring and call it a day but it will sound weak as hell.

Oh thanks man i sent you a pm wondering how big in length it is, im glad you said something because like you said everybody on here makes it sound like, oh just cut this, trim this do that, and it'll sound nice.I may step back and take another approach, or try it but not half *** it..i really don't like that box in my trunk anymore, i really want that free space..how does your woofer sound after all the imput on your custom box? does it still raddle?
