Default Ouch!!!!

Well to cut this short, I was on PCH in HB. I made a quick U-Turn . Shortly after that, I tried to brake and it didn't work. I was sh*tting bricks. I swirved to the side and downshifted and pull my ebrakes up. Took me awhile to actually stop. When I popped the hood open, I noticed that the master cyclinder hose came loose. Anyone have this experience before?

Good SAVE..

That is quick thinking..

Most people over-react and bail into the side of the road..

And NO...that has never happened to me... Did you make any of your friends or family mad??? kidding of course. But that IS an odd one. Most times that hose is on pretty snug.

Be sure to get that looked at. You may have a pressure issue or crimp in the line that caused that.

I've never heard of a master cylinder hose coming loose. You sure you don't have enemies out to get you? Those are usually on REAL tight. It's a good thing you weren't coming to a red light or off a freeway offramp. That could have been real ugly.

Essentially it is above and behind the brake pedal. The brake pedal is part of a lever system that compresses the master cylinder forcing brake fluid through the brake cylinders.

I don't know if my experience is same as yours, but the hose connected to the brake fluid reservoir somehow got disconnected when I tried to brake right before a large intersection. The brake pedal felt as stiff as a brick.... And the distance between my bumper to the car stopping in front of me was too short, so I made a hard right pushing my SC4 on to the sidewalk and knocked down a tree. I had to throw away all four aftermarket rims (2000 bucks) due to dent on all four. Had to replace my front bumper, left headlight housing, rear mufflers, AC condenser, etc etc. This was 4 months ago.

That is not the end.

It happened again few days ago!! The f'n Lexus dealer was supposed to fix the freaken hose, but it popped out again....
Luckily, there weren't any traffic in front of me, so I could use my e-brake and come to a stop without any damage...

If I had hurt myself or someone else, I could have sued their (Lexus of Ann Arbor ) freaken *** to jail.

I'm planning to visit the dealer on tuesday after labor day to ***** at their ***.

Excuse my harsh language...
It could have been another 4000 thousand bucks off my wallet.

That is scary.

Everyone with a SC400 should check that brake line now.

Maybe you need a clamp to reinforce it. Once is odd, twice is a death trap.

Your insurance company also screws you for a single person accident. Somehow, if you hit someone elses car, you get a 1/2 ding on your record, but a tree is a full ding.

Bummer

FOR REAL?????????????

I could have hit at least 6 cars in front of me...
And that's supposed to be better on my record?

Wow... sorry to hear that bro. I luckily was able to swirve off to the side and luckily PCH had had a bunch of sand there instead of trees. Mines was the same as yours... Brake pedal stiff as a brick.

I just got those clamps with the screws and replaced them with the black clamps.

Hopefully this wont happen to anyone else.

This hose that's falling off - are we talking about brake fluid or vacuum? If a fluid line fails, you are gonna lose fluid rapidly and the pedal will go to the floor. If the vacuum line to the booster fails, you still have brakes but no assist and stopping will be rilly hard.

I read a similar post a while back - brakes suddenly "don't work" and the poor guy swerves out of traffic and nails a tree - sudden lack of power assist on a car with discs on all 4 corners will make it very hard to stop - if we are talking about loss of boost, it prolly bears a look for all of us with older cars - anybody else had this problem?

<edit> Oh yeah - ChronoJ1, that "poor guy" was you! And the dealer didn't manage to fix the problem - jeez - yank that hose outta there and beat the guy on the head with it!

Default Easy Fix

Just go to your local Pep Boys or hardware store and pick up a set of i believe3/4 inch clamps, but i may be wrong, measure ur hose first.... I put 2 on my vacuum hose to make sure it doesn't come off at all.... This happened to me twice, and its the feeling of trying to brake when going down a hill in neutral... Both times it happened were when I was fooling around and I guess the power was too strong going through the hose and knocked it off....But also, it seemed to slide off slightly after driving it for awhile, until it eventually falls off..

Yup, Strongsail...

That poor bastard was me...
Now everytime I brake, I fear it will happen again... especially at intersections with a lot of cars and pedestrians...

By the way, good too see another silver spruce SC, Strongsail~
