Question Remote Start System

Hello Everyone. Just another question I thought I'd pose. Just wondering if anyone has a remote start system and what the cost of it was + installation. Been looking for some figures. Thanks.

I'm also gonna post this in the electronics section.

Hey Cap.

Car start is pretty easy. I installed it in about an hour with my alarm. I bought the DEI Viper 550. It works great but the automatic tilt/telescoping steering wheel doesn't drop. Easy fix is the manually hit the memory button.

Good Luck.

How did you get around the RF security key thingy?

Default Remote Start

I also have the Viper 550esp on my 96 GS300. I got it for $300 installed. Any good installer should be able to get the tilt/telescope to work with the alarm. The wheel comes down and out when I activate the remote starter.

Hope this helps.

Honestly, I thought it was going to be an issue too. But I went to the DEI install computer and said that you just need to find all 3 of the ignition wires and you are fine. I did a web search and then did make a call to DEI. They asked, "Have you tried it?" I said ooopp... So I installed it and no problems.

My guess is that the RF disables the Ignition switch itself. The alarm installs to the direct wires and maybe that is why it works?

CyberGS3,

I agree that it could work with the remote start. But maybe I should have explained. Normally, you get in, stick the key in and the steering column in activated. When I remote start it doesn't move. This is what I want. However, when I get in and insert the key, I would like the steering wheel to come out and down.

I drive with the wheel almost all the way down so I can use my knees while I hold my Starbucks, cell phone, and write (just kidding). If I used a relay to drop the steering before I was in... I would bust my knee caps.

Sorry... I guess I should have been more clear.
