Hey guys, the battery in my transponder seems to dying. Has anyone ever taken one apart to change the battery? I def. don't wanna ask the Lexus dealer, any solution they have will probably cost hundreds I just want to make sure that I won't mess anything up by taking it apart.
Thanks,
-Johnny

"Transponder" refers to the chip that deactivates the engine immobilizer. I believe it was only found in cars 98 or newer (at least on the ES, the model with which I'm familiar).
The unlock button in the key is a "transmitter" that sends a radio signal to unlock your doors.
The transponder keys you see on eBay have the security chip for newer cars, but don't have a radio transmitter for keyless entry. For awhile, the transmitter was on the key (as on my 96 ES), then it was moved to a keyfob (97-98 ES, some LS), and then back onto the key when Lexus switched to the keys with the big heads, buttons for lock, trunk, and panic, and the security chip (as on my 01 IS).
