Ok folks, I need some help here. My car today didnt want to start. I didnt even get a click when I went to start it. It ran and started fine just last night. the power is there and the starter is new, any one might have any ideas what it could be. I have the stock v8 4.0 auto. its a 92 model with a 97 motor. pls guys I can use the help. Im still learning about these cars. thanks

 

im guessing that by "the power is there" you mean that the battery is charged and not dead, I would look for a loose ground/power wire check terminal connections etc, do you have an alarm with a kill switch by chance?

 

yes I have an alarm with a switch but that works right now too. I did check the connections, and wires. I am guessing that even though the starter is 8 months old that the soleniod is bad.

 

Solenoids go bad. No click, motor doesnt turn sounds like a starter issue. Could be starter or a loose connection. Was the starter rebuilt or brand new?

 

damn dont know that one, **** I forgot to ask the guy I got it from, more then likely rebuilt. thanks bro

 

not sure you if you can do the old screwdriver trick on the 400 starter or if you can use something to tap on the starter solenoid

 

well I aint gonna do it now cause its raining but as soon as I can I will try that out. Thanks for that little reminder about that trick. lol

 

heh good call about waiting due to the rain , I would try to tap the solenoid first to see if you can jar loose any carbon built up on the contact points.
My old jeep was like that would start 97% of the time but once in a while nothing, gave it a little love tap and it was gtg.

 

i used to keep a screw driver in my old SC300 that had a bad solenoid. a firm tap on the side of the starter and it would start up everytime.

what was the issue?

 

previous owner had spliced some ignition wires and didnt have a secure connection, dont know y he did that. I found out just by lookin around lol. well problem fix Thanks again everyone for ur help........
