One of my ballasts for my fogs went bad today so its time to buy a new set. Just a few days ago I bought some H3 3000k Bulbs for the yellow look from DDM Tuning. The thing is the mount on the bulbs look different that the 4300 bulbs I had before. It does have the notches that line up in the fog but the way it lines up is weird. It makes the plastic where the wires attach cocked at a weird angle. The clip will fit but it doesn't seem like it should be like this and needs to be forced on (see pics for what I mean). The latch that holds the bulb is parallel with the notches on the old bulb (the notch should be at the bottom of the 'F' on the hat). My old lights weren't like this. Is this some kind of hybrid design that fits another socket too and is this normal? DDM Has good prices on their ballasts + bulb kits but if this kind of bulb isnt normal I might need to order from somewhere else. Does anyone have some idea why the bulb is like this as well as a recommendation for a kit? Thanks

Also looking at Sylvania's site it says that the fog lights are 55w. Is this true and would I benefit from a 55w watt kit? I have heard other places that with more power on a 3000k kit, it can wash out the yellow color. I am also worried about them getting too hot.

Anyway, to the OPs question is it possible that they didn't ship you an H3 bulb? That definitely doesn't look normal at all. I'd ask them to send you a picture of their H3 bulb so you can cross reference and make sure you were shipped the right one

 

^ I'm not sure, that's why I thought it was weird. It does fit in the foglight and the notches line up but it's at a weird angle. On my h3 fog there is a little square notch and a half circle. This bulb has 2 of each across from each other so you could technically install it either way, but in both cases it wont line up with the clip that holds it in.

I have emailed a few of the sponsors I have found on this site and linked them to this thread hoping they can give me some insight.

 

Did you email the company you bought them from as well? They should be the first stop.

I've had very good luck with Xenon Depot stuff, but haven't bought anything from our other HID vendors to recommend anything.

 

HIDextra and Xenon Depot are the two best. I've heard a lot of bad things on about DDM Tuning lately.

Are the fogs really supposed to be 55w?

 

I have emailed DDM Tuning and am waiting for a response back from them. I am just trying to talk to the other vendors as well so when I replace my ballasts I know who I'll be going with.

According to their replacement guide yes, but I'm not sure because of how warm my 35 watts get. Maybe HID bulbs run different but I assume they would be VERY hot.

 

I have the same kit. fits and works with no problems. Purchased three kits from DDM, no problems or issues what so ever.

HID's draw less power, 35W is fine..

 

Me and my friends Xenon Depot ballasts messed up within three months. (9007 Hi/Lo) and I had a bulb blow out.

My DDM kits haven't failed me yet and look much better imo.

As far as the 55W in the Fog Lights. I spoke to someone at DDM who said it will wash the color out a bit but the fog lights can handle it because they are so big. (He had an SC400).
