Its not a set number of miles... Depends on many factors. I personally feel that at 100k, most engines are starting to get alot of gunk in the engine and compression is starting to go down due to wearing of the cylinder bores/ valves not perfectly seating anymore...
I would guess most engines are in their prime around 30-60k miles.
Engines with closer tolerances will have a more noticeable improvement after break-in than engines with loose tolerances.

cost effective?...........ha! this is starting to sound like an infomercial. im getting nausiated. lets try $4000... its this whole don't be a schmuck and pay the going rate to a major company for a turbo. work your sources and get the same parts cheaper and install them yourself. its this whole money saving deal.
when my car had 90k on it, it went 15.2.
when it had 115k on it, it went 13.4
when it had 130k on it, it went 12.7
now that its got 150k on it, It should be in the mid 11s.
Its amazing how well its broken in.

You always want to use all the rpm you have on an SC300.
Shift L-2-3-4 with the gate.
There will be a delay in the time when you shift from L to 2, 2-3, 3-4, to the time the tranny actually acomplishes the shift so you have to play around with it and shift in to 2 when the tach is near the redline, but before it. Otherwise, you'll bump the limiter. Just keep the shift point at the highest point without hitting the fuel cut. This will give you the best time. The fuel cut is a few hundred rpm past the redline. Hitting the rev limiter a few times isn't going to hurt the engine either, these things can rev to 7500rpm with the stock valvetrain and can do 8500-9000rpm with upgraded valve springs.
On our GS400, I have to initiate the 1-2 shift at 5200rpm to avoid fuel cut at 6300rpm, so you may have to initiate the shift significantly early, especially in the 1-2. It all depends on how fast your tranny shifts.
