Can i beat a.......?
The way you race a auto and a 5 speed are pretty different due to the fact that you work the clutch. However, you do want to turn off traction control, the ac, radio, and close the windows. With a five speed you want to get your car revving up in neutral and drop it into gear so that you get a good launch. As always when racing in a straight line, shift at the last possible second and practice so that your shifts are powerful and quick.
I think the SC does pretty well as a race car. Just that the more powerful engined variant of the SC wasnt released in the US. Everything else for it to be good is there. The suspension is very sporting with lots of controls (toe, castor, camber), if you change the rubber bushes to nolothane or something harder, the sterring feel is more responsive and you get a very tight and accurate turning circle. The only thing that is against the SC is the weight. But I dont have a problem with that as the creature comforts (sound deadening) outweigh the weight penalty.

Actually, it's an I-6---much better than a V-6. The Acura will take you quite easily if you're an SC300 auto. A pre-96 SC400 and maybe an SC300 5-speed will neck it. If it were stock, I'd toast it. A '98 SC400 will take a '02 TL Type-S. However, if they are ****** and only race to 60mph, like lots of street racers, the Acura will have the lead over the Lex.
Here's how I race my automatic though: at the red light I hold my brake down firmly and when the other lane's light turns yellow I begin to easy down the throttle to about 2000rpm (with the brake down still). When my light turns green, i let off the brake and punch the gas quickly together in one continual motion. My tires will chirp or spin out depending how high I rev with the brake still down (a quick chirp is the best launch). From then on I do not floor the pedal as the first gear is a short gear and I will only cause the tranny to lag *** at redline. Rather, I juice it into passing mode, and then punch it to the ground in second gear until the tach approaches redline. Then I let off just a bit so the torque convertor can shift to third (the long gear!). Now you floor it in third because your crank should already be spinning in the power band. So basically all I'm trying to say is flooring it out of the hole is a bad idea.
Neal,
That is funny!!
Camry, 4Runners, Toyota Trucks have the V6 which is pretty weak.
The SC300 has the Inline6 like a Supra. Hardly even close to the same engine as a V6.
So...maybe that pic should read "Can you modify your V8?"

When my 92 SC300 5spd was stock, I dragged a 2000 Acura TL repeatedly. This was official, at the track under good conditions, and my best friend who definitely knows how to drive. I beat him 3 out of 4 times. He won the first race by .005 cause I was new to the car and only revved around 3000rpm on the launch (ran a 16.2? yuk. By the end of the night, on the 4th run, I really trounced him by significant margin it was like 15.2 for me to his 16.0. The TL also couldn't break 90mph in the 1/4... I was running 91-92. This TL was automatic 5spd with 225hp. Generally, the SC300 would start pulling at around 70-80mph, but neck and neck up to that point.
If you're driving an automatic, you'll be at best even, but probably give up a little to the 225hp versions. A 260hp TL-S or CL-S, you'd be toast.

hahaha pcmw glad to see the rest of you don't have a sense of humor, yes i see your point that its not a v6, and thats partially why its a joke. i wasn't dissing sc300s, that would be stupid, because mine is that with a bigger powerplant.
and yes pcmw, don't get your panties all up in a twist. currently i am working through the planning stages with a friend, who is also my boss, on putting a turbo in my sc 400. yes thats right, a turbo in my sc400. talk is **** right now, so just hang tight. mabey i can inspire you all so you no longer treat the sc's v8 like a redheaded step child

Its not entirely the engine that makes turboing the SC400 so difficult, its the packaging and size constraints, just too much to put in a small area. Some have tried and none could be considered successful. Oddly enough the Lexus V-8 does really well in the PRO V-8 classes of drag racing, but they're transplanted into a Tacoma body, etc, and as far as I know most if not all are NOS and not turbo.
In the long run it would be more cost effective to sell your SC400, buy an SC300, have more power at a cheaper price.
