Default blacking out chrome/gold emblems

so I went to Lexus dealership to get a trunk emblem set, they told me they no longer carry black pearl emblems, they discontinued both black n gold so I was thinking about blacking them myself. but I'm worrying if it'll fade or the paint will chip off. has anyone ever done this before n what's the results?

Follow this method and you will be straight. Best match to OEM black pearl.

Check out my pics I posted towards the end of the tread. I DIY my front to match my rear OEM black pearls and it was identical.

The problem with that method is it chips way to easy...If you drive your car regular it should only last a few months then you need to redo it.

I would sand it, primer it, sand it with a higher grit so its smooth, and then spray it with black pearl paint from a hobby shop. Not the tinting spray, but actual black pearl color. Then clear coat, wet sand the clear with high grit, then buff.

Alot of work though....

Not with the Tamiya paint....it's for the rears so no need to do all that work. If for the front, then yes definitely a lot of prep work. If you sand then it takes away the BP effect and becomes just "Black."

The rear on mine when I did black pearl flaked off first. the front is still decent.

There is also a tamiya paint called black pearl. Its not tint translucent spray. But rather a actual black/grey paint with a metallic pearl look. So it looks close to black pearl, only without the shimmering. Still close though.

Or antoher thing you could try if you insist in doing it like the how to is to get clear bulldog adhesion promoter. Spray that on before painting and itll act like a primer. Not sure how strong itll be though.
