Default Need everyones opinion please

My brother wants to sell me his 92 SC300 5spd. It has 120k. Right now i was actually saving to buy an N/A mkiv supra again. I dont have a car right now though after selling my is300. The only thing wrong with the car is the rack and pinion is messed up, something i can change myself and the seats are torn. My thing is i dont know if i should go ahead and drive it stock till i can afford the supra or go ahead and do a 1jz swap (i can get one for 2k with harness ecu and transmission). My main concern is when i want to sell it be able to make some or atleast break even if i do the swap (something i can do myself). Hes selling me the car for $3000. What do you think? Thanks!

He needs the money so i cant give him less now. Yes i am doing the swap myself. How much do these sell for with a 1jz? Im not planning on doing a bunch of work to the 1jz, just a piggy back fuel managment and a boost controller and a fmic.

You guys are family. Either you buy the car from him or help him sell it then you can get the car you really wanted. $3000 for a 5spd sounds like a deal tho. On top of that, it stays in the family and you already know the condition of it.... Good luck.

Buy it now, do the swap and what nots then when he's ready sell it back to him. In the mean time after the swap save for an n/a supra and when the time is right things will work out..but sounds to me like buying the sc would be a good idea for you and your brother

Yeah 3k is a great deal. I just want to be sure if i do the swap that when im ready for the supra i can get around $5500-6500 for it. Car has never been crashed. I cant post pics because he lives 4.5 hours away from me. Im going to go ahead and buy it, picking it up hopefully this weekend. Thanks guys!

cars are terrible investments. if you can break even then good for you. most of the time, especially if you are not doing the labor, you NEVER get your money back....ever.

This is very true.

It sounds like ur just swapping to sell, i used to do that and this **** gets old after a while. if i were you, i would sit on ur money as long as possible and get the supra you really want.

I couldn't agree more! Basically, if you don't actually enjoy doing the work and get some pleasure from it, then don't bother.
