How come someone with so little posts, post something so great. This has been covered before but not a whole lot of pictures and details with the key position or wiring diagrams for us. Please post all the info you have. I have also a useless volume ****. Thanks

Ok i'l take the video tomorrow, its dark outside. The reason i chose the cig lighter is theft protection.

Cleanshots- its better to have 2 thick wires than have 4 wires for a relay hookup. Then you have to hide the relay. Use 10 awg audio wires, they are very soft.

i dont think you can "not" use the key , dont you need the key to unlock the steering wheel ?

Great writeup! I would be interested in more of puting the start button in a original ignition location with a lighter hookup for a clean look.

You would not want to set this option up even if you could. The way the new Lexus works is that the key sends an electronic signature to the ignition when in close proximity and this allows you to start up the car without the key in the ignition. If you were to figure a way to do this, you would set your car up to easily be stolen by anybody that broke in.

To wire up a smart key and retrofit your ignition to act like the new factory ignition would probably cost quite a bit of money and would be rather complicated.

I think the key in the ignition with the start button to fire up the car is probably the best way to go.

I did explain how it could be done in the DIY I wrote but I also strongly suggested against it.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

I really like this idea, but my question is that, could I can get any button and wire to the ignition switch? Engine start button is just a normal button and you can get normal button even smaller if wanted at radioshack. The button just sends the signal to ignition switch which will turn the starter and turn on the engine.
