Default need help to remove oil pump so i can replace main seal

so far i got all the bolts off, all necessary pulleys removed and the engine is also raised up by a engine hoist..i tried to pry it off (moved just a little) but backed off b/c i'm afraid i might break something. don't tell me i'm gonna have to take the upper oil pan off to do this? i tried cutting it like the manual says but that front seal material is kinda hard to cut.

I was replacing the motor in a 96SC300. The motor I had was from a 93 and didn't have the crank angle sensor. So basically pulled the bottom of the motor off to replace the oil pump. We already had the WP off so I don't know if it is required or not. Ask LexusFTW - that boy knows his stuff

excellent! on my manual it gives you a picture for where to cut but can't really understand it..does it matter where you cut it?

anywhere away from the crank, should you slip and scratch up the crank, the seal may not last long. Just be careful to not pry on the edges of the oil pump too much.

My co-worker had a special tool that basically was a mini pry bar with a razor blade on the end of it. Get's it out quickly all the time, gonna try that on my 1jz this weekend.

For that I used a flat head with electrical tape on the end and rubber hammer and hit one side till the other came up. When the other side of the seal came out I just pryed it lightly and it was all set. No oil pump removal, or waterpump. If the seal is in poor condition it will actually crack as you hit it and will eventually just crumble and fall out. If you can get the right angle you can actually hit the flat head into the seal and actually pull out the seal. Just be careful with the oil pump edges as someone stated and the crank.

You cut on the inner portion of the seal. ITs rubber so cutting it would be pretty easy, then you pry it out. Let us know how it goes.
