what is the easiest way to make a 1992 sc300 5 speed have a limited slip differential? Do not want to have to take the rear end apart if i don't have to. Is there any direct bold on way to do it like taking the rear end off of a supra and bolting it on?
Welding the ony yall have would be the cheepest. you cant do the 6spd cause you would have to change half shafts (cv joint shaft) 6spd bigger. the auto tt lsd is what i have. its 3.76 ratio from my 3.266 98sc400. so quicker & lsd. the auto 400 92-97 is 3.92 & auto 300 is 4.05 so if you do the auto tt you will lose bottom end & have more top. if the 5spd ratio is the same as auto tt,then thats perfect. Im not sure, im tryin to check into it right now. I have a stock 92-97 sc400 3.92 in my garage the i was thinkin about getting welded up so, someone would buy it. its a paper weight right now, and if 5spd diff is 3.76 then the 3.92 welded would be quicker & locked. good luck finding auto tt diff pretty rear now that discontinued, ive seen them go as much as $800 b4 shipping. i paid 300 + havd to give up my 3.266 diff. this diff is what supra auto to 6spd guys want to make gear ratio like 6spd diff. 3.76 is to short with the 6spd.

you cant compare a welded diff to an actual LSD, welding an open diff to act like a LSD is very primitive and is typically not recommended for street use, just buy an lsd unit and swap it in you existing lsd, or have someone do it for you.
He's right about the not recommended for the street. I was just saying its the cheapest way to get rid of the 1 wheel peel. If you buy a lsd like caaz of carbonetic's,you have to buy shims to get the backlash just right or you will F it up. buying the tt diff is the easiest way cause it just bolts right in, but you gotta get the gear ratio right or you could loose power, and then it dont make a damn if you got posi trak or not, cause you aint gotta enough a$$ to break the tires loose out the hole anyway.
I think the auto diff was too tall. You need to verify that and a search here will do you into being an expert.
Also consider that there are different performance levels of posi. The best one you don't want as it has bad street manners. Go with the Supra if you can but have it evaluated cause rebuilding is gonna be a shocker. Search here!

just so you know the higher the rear end gear the more acceleration and you loose top end speed. lower the gear and you have more top end and you a slug on the lower spectrum.
nothing wrong with welded diff on the street. most people talk about it like they have actually been driving with it.
i have had a welded diff in my car for 3 years. its awesome in the winter. no more 1 wheel drive. never had issues of spinning and no excessive tire wear either.
my car has been driven in chicago for the last 3 years and i put almost 70,000 miles on it in that time frame.
i got a hook up on a kaaz lsd for under 1000 bucks(retail 1400ish i think) so i may be going to that my next paycheck

I am with tommy on this. I would not weld the the open diff to behave like an LSD coz it will not!
