OverDrive failure?
I was reading somewhere I forgot(stupid of me) It said that it causes damage if you drive with O/D on all the time. When driving local roads should I take O/D off and switch back on when going highway? Can having O/D on all the time really damage my tranny?
Overdrive is for cruising at highway speed, not traffic filled city driving. Wether or not damage occurs is beyond me, but I would not doubt it being detrimental to the tranny.
I just looked it up to see what they had to say in the owner's manual. Apparently it's better to keep the overdrive on. Here's exactly what it said:
"Set the overdrive switch to the ON position:
Always set the overdrive switch to the ON position to improve fuel economy and quiet driving."
If I were to trust anyone on this subject, it would certainly be the company that made the car

Keeping overdrive off doesn't damage anything per se, but OD off does put more wear on the drivetrain by forcing the crank to spin faster. I only turn it off temporarily when climb long, steep hills.
