Recently picked up a 1995 SC300 auto with 205k miles. There is a vibration in the driveline upon accelerating from a standstill up until about 6-7mph. It feels as if it is coming from the torque converter and/or propeller shaft. After getting past 6-7mph, it is buttery smooth in all gears. Transmission shifts perfectly.

Any suggestions? First auto SC I've owned. I plan on dropping the fluid with a few refills next to rid the old fluid.

Mine did the same thing, thought it was the rear diff but turn out to be the driveshaft U joint about to snap...not sure how that was done with stock everything...

 

Was it the u-joint or guibo (flex coupler) ?

 

I thought about the flex coupler from OLT's thread about clunking noises. But my mechanic insisted it was the U joint and he was right, I saw it on the lift. Your best bet is to go to an transmission place and have them diagnose the problem, but I think you're well qualified to do your own stuff from reading your posts for the past 3 years.

Diagnosis for me is 80% of the work. Dropping trannys and propeller shafts is quite easy. I haven't looked underneath the car yet but will inspect the u-joint closely.

 

yeah i bet its that rubber thing in the mid section of the driveshaft thats all worn out.

 

Was looking around the threads and caught yours, I' m also having that problem too thought it was the stock transmission going bad with swap engine. I'll also will let you guys know if this is the case.

The shop had the driveshaft rebuilt with standard u-joints and a new coupler. Now it's serviceable and smooth!!
