Default Driving an automatic like a stick

I know you guys have probably heard this question a million times before. But anyway, I'm the kinda guy that loves ripping through gears and accelerating fast from a dead stop (don't we all? LOL ) Anyway, I find myself wanting to shift my automatic 94 SC300 from the 1st gear to 2nd and then put in drive after redlining (or almost redlining) every gear. It seems like the car is much faster when I do this but I've heard that it is really bad for an automatic transmission. I really should have bought a 5 speed instead of automatic but I couldn't find the same EXACT car that I have now in a 5 speed so I just settled for the automatic instead. I really miss driving a 5 speed lol. I really like my car other than the fact that it is an automatic, since this is the first automatic I have ever owned. I just wanted to hear everyone's opinions on it and wanted to see if it really is as bad as everyone says. What do you guys think?

in my auto SC4, when you do that you get a burning smell so i stopped doing it. never had the smell come back and never had any more issues...its just not meant to be driven like that. those gears are generally for really steep inclines when you need to keep the rpm up or the engine will bog itself down by upshifting

i wouldnt do that bro i also have a 94 sc300 auto and i started doing that...driving my sc like a stick from low gear to 2nd gear to D then to D(overdrive) and that tranny sure didnt last long trust me, after driving like that for so long ur auto tranny can only take so much..then it will start slippin goin from 1st to 2nd gear...so to help me with that im doin a 5 speed swap in my sc now cuz i also need a manual..auto sucks unless u got a crazy amount of power...LoL

Yeah I don't think I'll do it anymore, but it is fun to do. I've stopped doing it lately and don't really plan on doing it anymore. My tranny is still in pretty good shape for it's age and shifts nice and smoothly, so I don't want to take that for granted by beating on it anymore lol. Thanks for the inputs though guys, I just needed to clarify what I have heard about this being good or bad.

By the way, how much would it cost to do a 5 speed swap anyway? What about 6 speed? Not sure if they made 6 speeds for SC3/SC4s...

you wouldnt want to put a six speed in it if your not planing on making any power because its going to be a fortune.

well 5 speed swaps usually go from $800-$1100 depending on the transmission u decided to use..
w58-complete 5spd swap from a sc300 id say $800+
r154-from a toyota soarer, the tranny alone goes for 1500+

but if u do your research and learn about all of these trannys then u might be able to cheap it up in some areas...

for instance...the w58 tranny doesnt jus come factory for the sc300 it also comes factory for the non turbo mk3 supra and the non turbo mk4 supra

....and the r154 comes factory in the turbo mk3 supra's...jdm mk3 supra's...the jdm toyota soarer's(lexus sc300)...and also the jdm toyota chaser's

but if u use a mk3 r154 u will have to extend the shifter cuz the mk3 is alil shorter than the soarer, and chaser r154....but if u do go with the r154 tranny those are the ones u wanna get cuz its the right length..(no extension needed)

as for 6 speed swap they never came factory for a sc...but it can be done..we take the factory getreg 6spd tranny from a 93.5+ toyota supra and wit a couple mods it will work

***Getreg 6spd tranny it self is $2500+***

GREAT summary. After 3 years on this forum, and countless complicated and convoluted searches with tonnes of useless info, I just got almost all the info I needed right here..
