Default Key wont come out

The key in my 92 sc 400 wont come out, it is stuck on the acc and wont turn all the way to the left to take it out. The only way it will come out is it i disconnect the battery then it will come out? Does anybody know what to do to fix this problem? Thanks

if the car is auto, im pretty sure the shifter is in park when you try to take the key out right. im not sure what its called but its i think its the mechanism that recognizes that the car is in park and then youre able to take the key out. sorry i couldnt be of more help.

I tried pushing the shifter all the way forward, I even tried wiggling the shifter around i cant get it out. One thing i noticed is that my brake light is on could this have something to do with it? I feel dumb not being able to figure out how to get the key out but I have tried everything i can think of turning steering wheel, shifter forward, nothing. Any other advise?

the word brake on the dash? or your brake lights in the back ? could be the brake light switch. try changing that, its on top of the brake pedal. make sure its not broken or unplugged.

Yeah, at VW we have problems, when the brake light switch fails, you can't remove the car from Park with the car on...not quite the same problem you're having, but could potentially be an issue. Either that or your shifter assembly is jacked up and it doesn't know it's in Park.

Is it possible to remove the key with it in Neutral? I'm asking anyone with an auto SC, mine's 5spd. Just trying to think, maybe try removing the key with the shifter in a different position/gear. I know some cars you can remove the key in either Park OR Neutral. Dunno if the SC is like that.

have you taken apart any of the dash or electronics? If so you might have tripped a ainti theft that some sc's have. You might have to take out the whole key mechanism and there is a reset button on it. One of my friends changed his dash and the same thing happened.

Wel i figured out the problem with the key not coming out, I ended up taking the center trim off and unpluged electronics to the trans switch and traction control and the key comes out now. I dont think it was the electronics i think it was that my shifter wasnt making it far enough forward because it was hitting on the plastic. Thanks for all the help from everybody.
