Default if my sc300 is a 97'?

by the year it was sold, but the year of production says 96', does that mean the maf is the same as an actual 96' engine, thus meaning i can put an injen 92-96 intake in it?
any help would be great.

A 97 is a 97. Most of them are produced a year earlier hence the production date...I have a 93 so it may have been produced in 92.

Yours is a 97, they sometimes set the make model and year ahead of time even though the production date is a year ahead of the model's year.

As for the fitment, it has to do with the MAF that you car comes with. Yours is an OBD II hotwire MAF as opposed to the OBD I Karman Vortex MAF. The fitments might be different, but either way you're wasting $200. No power gains from a shiny pipe in your engine bay. A lot of people are going to tell you to go build a BFI (Big F-ing Intake) and im inclined to agree.

I am using Injen piping from a '93 on my '97. It lines right up perfectly, I just had to make a T for the vaccuum lines as there must be an extra one or two for it. I did however reuse my stock airbox with a panel filter (K&N) as it seems to be the way everyone was getting actual power from any kind of intake. Unless you have $ to completely waste to have a chrome piece of pipe, follow the others advice on the BFI.

Typically the production date will start around August the year before..

example:

Car tag might say 08-96

Meaning it is a '97.

yay.

well yea ive already been told about the BFI, isnt it true its has little to no gains on the sc300, mainly a sc400 kinda thing.? how much hp could be reasonably gained from a bfi on a sc300 if properly built with lots of imagination?

P.S. would the air intake box and snorkle leading to the front of the fender from a supra fit on my car?

i notice slight gains from the bfi on my 93 300. i also use a k & n panel filter by the way. throttle response is obviously increased to me and it makes a loud sucking noise from the airbox when accelerating hard. I dont know about real horsepower gains but it lets the car breathe better than the stock airbox. i think that a top speed was reached much easier with this mod.
