Default '97 MAF Cleaning

I searched through the FAQ's but am still somewhat confused. Some models say the MAF can't be cleaned but I was confused on the 95-97's. Can they be cleaned or no? I don't want to buy a new one unless I absolutely have to.

Thanks

Are you getting a MAF code telling you it's bad? Why do you think you need a new one?

The pre 1994 models have the Karman Vortex MAF and should not be cleaned. The later models should be cleanable and the MAF should look like a thin wire.

Might want to also clean your throttle body while you're at it.

If it looks like this then don't clean it:

Post Edit: I'm thinking the 1995 has the Karman Vortex MAF and should not be cleaned.

Now I'm leaning towards no... based on the following part number pulled from Lexuspartsnow.com and the part found on Ebay.

Yeah the code (forgot the number) but it came up as air filter or MAF. Well a new filter later and code clearing and the CEL is back on, so I'm guessing that's what it is. My new bluetooth OBD-II reader should be on my porch when I get home and will know for sure shortly.

Yep, code P0171. I'll check into cleaning the MAF.
