Default bought new climate control...weird.

So the normal display for the climate control and stereo screens is that greyish color yeah? I just bought a climate control unit from a guy on craigslist, and everything lights up orange! weird huh? like...the buttons AND the screen are orange. anyone seen that before? I figured maybe someone just changed the little lights in the unit, but wouldn't the screen still be grey?

Also...this is my problem, before I removed my old unit, the screen was black, but I had all the adjustment, from low to high on the fan speed.
Now that I plugged the new unit it, I've only got high and off...like I can turn the fan down on the unit, but the speed stays high at all times, unless I press off, it turns off. Anyone know why this could be?

Both my 95 and 96 light up amber/orange-ish.
The 99 interior parts that I bought light up green. My friend's 97 also lights up green. What year is your car that it lights up grey?

I'm looking at a thread from 2001 where everybody in the thread (which is 6 pages long) seems to know the difference in climate units.

We are regressing.........

lol well I don't really CARE that it's orange, but I do want it to work. Are the different year climate control modules not compatible/interchangeable?

I have a '92. It lit up greyish.

I don't know what year the unit came from that I just got.

okay now that that's settled, lol, is this unit not going to work with my 92 as it's supposed to? Or is something weird going on?

The unit has 2 pieces - the computer (brian) and display front. The brains are not compatible with each other within the three different versions so you have to use your old original brain with the new screen
