The price seems a little high for a 97, but if you can get it down to around 7 I think thats about fair. For problems, I'm sure its nothing you're not familiar with, like burnt out needles, climate control, etc.
There are a few known issues. They are detailed in the forum in a bunch of threads. Not sure who compiled them but most common issues are noted in here.
Good Luck. Not sure on price there is one near me a 97 at dealer was at 8k with like 74k miles but was an SC400 so I am not sure on value for what your looking at.
7k is still a bit steep for a 97 nowadays. also be aware that the next model year the gated shifter came out and the 3 spoke wheel as well as a little hp gain. i'd wait it out for a 98+ if i were you unless you're dead set on this clean one like you said.

Sadly the 98 still has the 4 spoke steering wheel.

3 Spoke steering wheel and gated shifter are cheap to get. Under 500 bucks for both if you are patient and look around.

7K for a 95 even though its a 5 speed is too much...I would try to talk him down to 7K cash! Wish they were that cheap here in Miami...
Seems just a touch steep to me. Get it down to $7K and that should be about right. I upgraded from my '98 ES300 to my '99 SC300 about a month ago - paid $13k for it (got $5k for the ES, so $7k total) with 74k miles.
