What are some tips on buying jdm engines? im looking to buy a 1jz lately and i found one thats in a front clip, it start up but i dont have any equipment to do a leakdown and compression test, how else do i tell that this is a good healthy engine? What are some general tips when buying these jdm engines?
It's kind of sad to say, but no matter who you buy a JDM engine from, it's still kind of hit and miss. There are those that buy off of Ebay and have really good luck from companies you have never heard from. Then there are those that buy from decently reputable companies and get duds. If I were to suggest how to buy a JDM engine, I would do the most amount of research on feedback from others that have purchased from that company. If you are still not comfortable once you have the engine, a compression test would cost hardly nothing from a local shop.
haha thanks OLT, i was thinking about putting this in performance but im not sure since im not asking anything about performance, i just want some tips thats all, but ill watch it next time thanks for moving this!
i found the clip from a local company, it has around 50000 miles or so, im not sure how i would get this to a local shop for compression and leakdown test
im not sure if there are really any tips, like what 2jzlex said, its pretty much hit or miss but definitely try to stay away from the noname/no reputation companies. I went with JHOT and had no issues.
1SickSC,
What part of Washington are you in? I'm looking for a block as well, but just another 2JZ-GE. I'm currently NA-T, but a recent compression/leak test came out bad. I'm looking for a good local reputable shop in the Pierce County area.
