if you dont mind used, there are usually some for sale on supraforums. the prices keep going up and up, but that would be a good place to start. alot of the engine importers i checked with mostly carry v161's

 

V160 verses V161, What are the differences?

 

v-160 tranny were in the 93-95 supras v-161 were 96-02

v-161
First gear: 3.724:1
Second gear: 2.246:1

Fifth gear: 1:1
Sixth gear: 0.818:1

 

Is any of the USDM 96-98 Supra equiped with V-161?

 

Late model Supras got the V161. I just got mine last week. Let me tell you, finding one was a complete PAIN IN THE ***! It took forever. Be careful about who you find that says "I have one" because many of these online salvage places, parts traders, and junkyards, are shady as hell. Ask for pictures, and immediate tracking info. At one point during my 2 month journey, I had 7k charged on my card with people just messing with my money. I finally got what I wanted, but not without tremendous hassle. Occasionally, they pop up on SF, but I put WTB ads on there for awhile with no response. If you get lucky and find someone, act quick, that's all I can say. Getrags are like a damn commodity, it's just nuts!

Where is the best place to get a used one. Does anyone have any good exports/imports. i have found one or two for $3200. But, as I mentioned, they are go quick.

Wow, I guess I have a V161 since it came out of a 97. I dont know if that is better or just different. I will have to study the gear ratios a little bit.

 

From what I understand, the V161 never came in USDM Supras. They were all V160s. JDM Supras 96 and later had the V161.
