Weird wiper problem??
Hi, i did a search and found that detunded also has a similar problem. Anyways today when i got in my car everything was fine, all of a sudden my wipers turned on while in the off postion and would not turn off. im guessing its a short some where in the line but i was wondering if anyone had a similar problem or any help with the situation before i start ripping everything apart
and if u want the liner gone still, i am putting like a foam over the wiper relays up front, and other electrical components...
it'll be a pain if i ever need to get to them, but i don't really plan to need to
(i have the everytime it rains issue)

update. today i took the car out and everything was fine, no more ghost wipers. then when i was a few block away from home i drove through a puddle and what do you know a few seconds after my wipes started going crazy again. so i guess this confirms a short coming from the left fender liner. hopefully when i replace the lining things should be back to normal. i just hope this is the fix.
the tire ate through the loom itself but i havent seen any exposed wires. im just guessing it some how made its way to the relay or connectors because its been a few months like this and driving through rain, snow doesnt matter. its never happened till that day.
People usually loose there fender liner because the car is lowered, has big wheels and tires or both. From bottoming out and everyday driving the tires eventually eat through the linning. Sometimes people remove it after that and sometimes it gets ripped off after hitting a BIG pothole..
Eventually if this happens and you no longer have a linning or it has a huge hole in it. The tire will then eventually eat through this plastic harness cover and the lovely harness inside of it, which lead to pretty much everything for your car from dash, wipers, headlights, tail lights, horn everything, you name it, its there. If you sever this harness nothing will work and if you short out this harness you'll have some strange electrical problems (ghost/crazy wipers) If you have any weird electrical issues, I would check that harness.
I learned this the hard way after having to modify my harness by repairing ALL the damaged wires TWICE, the second time I adding a few inches to relocate the harness.
Since relocating the harness I havent had any strange problems (knock on wood) Mind you that from ripping the inner lining to having crazy electrical issues depends on how much you drive and bottom out. It took me a little over a year of everyday abuse to start having strange electrical problems
but to spend a few hours to modify and relocate your harness is definatly worth it especially if you dont want to risk messing up your car

dont be like me and let it get worst. get that wiring loom out of harms way or else youre gonna hate yourself down the line. my tire ate through all the wires and just recently had it fix. blew 5 fuses and had no signals, wipers, climate control. get a new liner on there you wont kick yourself down the line.
it can be these, but I have the same issue, and the first reply was correct. The relay for the wipers is near the front driver headlight. You can test that it is causing the problem simply by turning the car on, and then spraying it with a hose. I don't know how the water manages to short a relay that is as protected looking as this one, but that is where my problem came from. I also have some stranger issue where my car alarm will go off from time to time with no real reason.
You mentioning the steering wheel not moving as usual is interesting. The steering wheel uses a different fuse than the wipers, but perhaps more upstream they both hit that same relay. . .I'll have to check the service manual books. It sure would be nice to fix both problems at once, but the car alarm would go off early mornings usually, meaning that dew was able to short it???
Also, with your fender liner out, have you ran any wires incabin using the lower boot in the driver wheel well?
