So... My friend is thinking about a project SC400
We went to go look at a DPW / Gray Interior SC400 last night. The car needs work. He is looking around 1k for it but honestly, I think we can get it for $500-750.
After a thorough investigation, this is what we learned from it.
The Good:
Original Paint is 8/10, needs a good clay barring.
Body is straight
Transmission is great
Brakes, wheels, etc look good
One of the rare SC400's with NO TRAC
One of the rare SC400's with NO SPOILER
The Bad:
Engine wont turn over - The guys nephew ran it without oil haha.
Needs a new DPW hood (rust spot in one area, but this is the only rust on the car)
Bumper needs new paint - The guy used another car to push it in his drive way
Driver fender has a 6" dent, but looks like it can be pulled out with a plunger
Interior needs help. needs
-Grey Front and Rear Seats
-Both Grey Door Panels
-Both Grey Door trim that sits above the panels
-New Shift ****
-New Hand Brake Boot
-Needs tires, but he works for a tire shop.
Its a project in itself, we are aware of that. He already has a DD so downtime isn't a big deal. He does not want to do a 1jz swap, he just wants a running 1uz. I think the point of this project is to make a reliable daily after he fixes the car.
I think for the money for a clean body and starting with a grey interior, I think its a good buy. We estimated about 3k (if we shop around) to get it looking and running about 100%.
I think I am just looking for opinions on what you guys think of this project.
