Do a cost-benfit analysis of na-t vs 1JZ on an SC300 using fellow CL member's set ups as evidence.

You could also do a cost-benefit analysis of various turbos (and the required supporting mods) on the 2JZ-GTE to determine the true point of dimishing returns for the engine.

Another study could be on the 1JZ vs. the 2JZ swap on an SC300: which makes more power for less money. Examine set-ups and settle the debate as to the power level at which the 1JZ becomes cost-ineffective.

You have a number of guys on these forums and Supraforums that would share set-ups that had and the power they were making. You could run a cost-benefit anazlysis and determine the optimal value set up on the 1JZ and the 2JZ and establish the power level at which the 1JZ becomes more expensive (in the long run) as compared to the 2JZ.

There is definitely controversy, and you would definitely not be short on information. To make the paper more technical in nature, you could perhaps explain why yoru findings have occured within the context of the various strengths and weaknesses of the individual engines: displacement, head structure, cams, redline, etc, etc.

that really sounds like a exciting topic. but i only know 1 person with a 1jz and hes putting it in a MKIII supra. but i dont think that would matter. i dont mind using that one but that kind of sounds like something in the long run. but so far thats on top of my list. thank you. Blizzy

there are tons of 1JZ guys on this fourm and supraforums. You could PM fifty people with 1JZ's and fifty people with 2JZ's to ask for their set-ups. Not only would they be flattered, but they would give you the information you need for your project.

welll. i tried to get my 1jz vs 2jz paper accepted but my teacher said it was too technical for lamense(sp?) people to understand. he suggested i did it on street racing being legalized. but i doubt that will ever happen. and i thought it was stupid suggestion.
sooo anyone have a suggestion on a controversial topic on anything having to do with mechanical engineering?

I think the phrase is "lay man's terms" (ie. the lay man = Joe Blow).

It is too bad your teacher is not more willing to let you go out and do a paper on what you are interested in. The 1JZ vs 2JZ would have been a pretty sweet paper.

What class is it for? (would help in the suggesting of topics)

If you have to keep it simple. There is always the controversy of buying a "factory hot rod" vs building a car that can compete with it.

Just an idea.

You could compare/contrast a supercharged car to a turbocharged car.

those are good ideas too but he really wants it on "lay mans" terms.
he wants it to be something a person can just jump into and be like "o. ive heard about that"
