If they are the same as the soarer they are just stuck on with a STRONG double sided tape. They are actually stainless and polish up like chrome.
Dont listen to him, he has chrome on the brain.

if you use some fineline tape it is pretty easy to do. just take your time. I did mine and also painted my chrome trim. the B pillar you should scuff with red scotch brite to paint and the chrome you can use an airbrush sandblaster or some 320 or 400 then acid etch it.

^^ So I should remove all the old paint bare down to the chrome then paint?

I'm not too sure on how to paint something like this. The other side is perfect, but I might end up stripping it down to paint it just so it can match. It would really bother me if one was a different color than the other.

I don't have a lot of time to have them painted. I've seen the carbon fiber replacements...Do they have direct replacements?

My 97' SC400 B-pillars are faded...well, the passenger side one is faded pretty bad.
There's gotta be a quicker fix than having it repainted.

the carbon fiber things stick on top of your original stuff. the previous owner of my car had some on mine, but it started peeling and looking like butt.

Did you paint your Chrome trim or use trim black tape?

Any new solutions for this? I haven't yet bought an SC400, but I'm thinking there's a good chance I'll be dealing with this pillar issue when I do! I'm surprised some of the dealerships don't know how to fix this. If I end up getting mine done professionally (I'd be scared to do it myself I think!), I'll let everyone know.

Painting them is really not bad at all. Just make sure you take the time to tape the hell out of the car and cover it properly (specially in a white car like mine). I painted mine as soon as I bought the vehicle, but a year later they could use another touch-up. Probably because I only did one coat and no clear. Also AZ summers are brutal on paint. I will take pictures once I do it again.
