w58 shifter on r154?
I need a shifter for my r154 in my sc300. Will w58 shifters be a direct swap over? Finding shifters for an r154 is expensive. Most aftermarket ones are like $300 and I am too cheap for that.
I already have the shifter housing extended so what are my options?
I've searched and only came up with expensive aftermarket shifters.

If you have an early extension-housing R154 (converted MKIII or Soarer) you can use a stock 92-94 SC300 W58 swan shifter which will sit perfectly but will have the stock throw geometry. It's recommended you upgrade to MC nylon shift seat bushing and end bushing while you're installing it. It's possible the MK3 Supra W58/R154 oem shifter might fit but it's going to be a bit far forward.
The Suprasport V3 (and earlier V2) is the sole aftermarket shifter on the market for early R154's (and our 92-94 SC W58's). Yep, it's about $330. It's an improved C's short shifter copy. I have one on my R154 and it's great. Build quality is excellent. In neutral it it's slightly forward compared to the OEM SC shifter but it works perfectly in all gears.
I don't know of any other options though. There are the 1991-1993 Soarer R154 OEM shifters which are slightly different from the early SC300 shifter and have a different part number but they have been discontinued and unavailable from Toyota Japan for several years now.
^^ All of the above assumes you have an early R154 with the Soarer extension housing or a custom extension that is the same approximate 1.125" extra length of the Soarer extension housing. For custom extension housing lengths longer than that (which are meant to eliminate the need for a "swan" shifter) there are straight shifters made by Beech Performance.

the w58 and r154 earlier shifters are basically the same, but if you got a 4"+ extension done then you might want to make a shifter that is more straight up and down vs the factory swan neck. I don't think any of them come that way except for some aftermarkets. I would probably just get a w58 shifter and have it modified (cut and welded) to fit perfect.

Early models only came with the "swan" type. Even MKIII Supra W58's and R154's which don't have extended housings still used a slight "swan" bend in their shifters but not to the same degree as seen in the early SC300's W58 or the early Soarer's R154.
With a 4" extension he would want a straight shifter made (or buy a Beech).
