Default Limited Slip Diff.

Hit a small patch of ice today and realized "Hey, I have only one tire with power. Hmm." Anyone have a posi setup, a supra rear end, or a rear end off of an SC4? Need some traction here.

Shutdown,

Hey, I have been looking into this. The GS rear works in the SC...what are the gear ratios? What year Supra rear works? And check into the gear ratio differences before you put the SC4 diff in your SC3, the ratio may be taller and cut some perf.

Ok, I've been thru this alot, since I'm about to do the switch.

A Supra TT rear will fit. But you will also need: the rear axles, custom driveshaft. Toyomoto can do it, that's who did Jeff's (SC300TURBO) car.

I believe rod millen also sells a LSD for the SC, and for both the sc3/4 it's the same part.

I'm going to go the Toyomoto way, switch out the tranny to 6-speed, custom driveshaft, LSD, all of it.

Yeah but isn't the automatic Supra's rear supposed to bolt right in?

Or are you replacing the axle shafts in fear of them snapping from a good launch?

Oh, I know non-turbo Supras had a LSD option; that would bolt in i'm pretty sure and keep the same gear ratios

From working with IMCA Modifieds, I know that lengthening axles and fabrication to fit can be a chore, but worth it. However, those $600 custom drive shafts scare me. I was thinking more along the lines of the limited slip from a Tacoma, Supra, SC4, GS3, or something like that. At least something with a positrac. For the price of getting a complete supra rear end and axles, you might as well get a Ford 9". Then you never have to worry about the rear end again.

TRAC supplants the need for LSD, doesn't it?

Not really, it lowers the power to prevent slippage. LSD just keeps both wheels spinning at the same rate. You don't want trac pulling power from the wheels when trying to dragrace!

Ford 9inch.....I've already been looking into that, and I know of a certain SC300 that already has it. I'm gonna see how theirs pans out first. You'd hafta switch to like 4link rear suspension.....bumpy.

Post TRD LSD!

Toyota Racing Development (TRD) as well as a few other Japanese manufacturers already make and sell an LSD for the SC400/SC300 that bolts straight on.

So no need to mess with bolting a complete rear end on from a different manufacturer.......

Part number is 41301-JS401.

But check with TRD USA first.....if they wont help, make 'em help

TRD rear end isn't built like the Ford 9" either

Ford 9" is made for allout drag racing; and the 4link suspension thing proves that too

plus the TRD rear is a ripoff... $1300 for something you can yank from a automatic or 6-speed SupraTT

But you still would need all the associated crap if you rip from a supra tt. Problem with using TRD's LSD in the stock setup, is the stock 5-speed can only take 450hp or so. You *need* the 6-speed. And the custom driveshaft and stuff.

Another point to consider. The Ford 9" center section takes a significant amount of power to drive, much more than the oe SC/Supra rear, plus the 9" weighs much more too. Don't bother unless you really need it, which you don't since guys like Ara Arslanian launch real hard on the Torsen LSD in the Supra. Plus, like Wiz said, do you really want to fab a 4-link for the car?

I think you totally misunderstood me

the trd lsd is a RIPOFF... i say get the supra one... for minimal work get a 6-speed tranny and a lsd from a supraTT automatic since that particular lsd bolts right into the stock axles

What is the LSD gear ratio on the SC 400 anyways and is there a swap with another car(i.e.-Toyota, Lexus) to a little lower gear ratio that makes a difference but, not so much so that you can't drive it on the freeway?

4.08's, and you don't want more gear than that, bro.
